Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers has discussed his political career and friendship with Paul Keating, his cameo appearance on a popular Australian show and his leadership ambitions in a wide-ranging interview with Sky News Australia.
Speaking about his choice in 2019 to not contest the Labor leadership after the party's election defeat, Mr Chalmers said the decision was “quite easy”.
“The reason why I don’t second-guess it is because I thought then and I think now, that Anthony would make a great Prime Minister,” he said.
“I want to be a treasurer in an Albanese government, not just any Labor government - I want it to be a really good one.
“So that’s what I focus on.”
