Chinese Tech Giants into Auto Industry: Huawei and Xiaomi launch new EV models in the same week

Описание: China’s smartphone vendor Xiaomi on Thursday unveiled its first electric car, the SU7, just two days after Huawei launched another one of its own.

Its CEO Lei Jun plans to begin trial production of the electric sedan in the coming months. Speaking at the launch event, Lei aims for the brand to be among the top five automakers globally in the next 15 to 20 years.

The model's price was not disclosed but hinted to be "a little bit high".

Xiaomi’s EV debut comes the same week as Huawei’s launch of the Aito M9, a spacious six-seater SUV priced from 469,800 yuan ($66,500 USD). Huawei boasts premium features like a cinema-like projection screen, massage-function seats, and double armrests for a relaxing ride.

Last month, Huawei entered the electric sedan market to compete with Tesla.

China leads the global automotive and EV market, with electric vehicle sales making up nearly 60% of the world's total.

BYD and Li Auto, Tesla rival in China, have reported profits among the top players this year.
