Takashi Shiina's manga adaptation of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon is set to conclude with its 10th volume this summer, as revealed in the ninth volume released on Friday. This manga is based on the Yashahime anime spinoff of Rumiko Takahashi's Inuyasha series and was launched in Shogakukan's Shōnen Sunday S magazine in September 2021. The story entered its "final battle" phase in the eighth volume last fall.
Viz Media is publishing the manga in print and simultaneously releasing new chapters digitally through its Viz Manga app as they debut in Japan. The company holds the rights for digital streaming, electronic sell-through, and home video for the original anime in North and Latin America. The story follows the daughters of Sesshomaru and Inuyasha on a time-traveling adventure.
In Feudal Japan, Half-Demon twins Towa and Setsuna are separated during a forest fire. While searching for her sister, Towa discovers a mysterious tunnel that transports her to modern-day Japan, where she is raised by Sota, Kagome Higurashi's brother. Ten years later, the tunnel reopens, allowing Towa to reunite with Setsuna, who has become a Demon Slayer working for Kohaku but has lost all memories of Towa. Along with Moroha, the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome, the three women embark on a journey across time to recover their lost past.
Shiina previously concluded the Zettai Karen Children manga in July 2021 after a 16-year run, which began in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 2005 and inspired a 52-episode anime series in 2008, along with a 2010 original video anime adaptation. Sentai Filmworks released the series in North America in 2012 under the title Psychic Squad, and a spin-off anime featuring the antagonist Kyōsuke Hyōbu aired in 2013. Crunchyroll streamed the series, and Sentai Filmworks released it on home video in 2015.
Rumiko Takahashi originally launched the Inuyasha manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1996, concluding it in 2008, with Viz licensing and publishing all 56 volumes in North America. The 167-episode Inuyasha anime aired from 2000 to 2004, followed by a 26-episode sequel titled InuYasha: The Final Act from 2009 to 2010. The franchise has also produced four anime films and a 30-minute short, with Viz beginning Blu-ray Disc releases of the anime in 2019.
