Exclusive footage from 'Send The Bird Up' in collaboration with Warby Motorsport, of their jet powered boat, 'Spirit of Australia II' - filmed at Blowering Reservoir in New South Wales, Australia.

On Blowering Dam N.S.W Australia in 1977 and 1978, Ken Warby set the World Water Speed Records of 317.60 mph (511 km/h) in his jet powered boat, Spirit of Australia - a record that still stands today (Wikipedia 2005b).

Now, the Spirit of Australia II is the new, second generation, Outright Unlimited World Water Speed Record Challenger, which is set to break the record this year (2025). Sadly, Ken Warby passed in 2023 however, the Spirit of Australia II is a second generation jet powered hydroplane (designed by Ken Warby) and driven by his son, Dave. Spirit of Australia II has almost 50% more power than the original boat and is powered by a Rolls Royce Orpheus 803 turbojet, from an ex-Italian Air Force Fiat G-91 fighter (Warby c.2012).

The Bristol Siddeley Orpheus is a single-spool turbojet developed by Bristol Siddeley for various light fighter/trainer applications such as the Folland Gnat and the Fiat G.91. Later, the Orpheus formed the core of the first Bristol Pegasus vectored thrust turbofan used in the Harrier family (Wikipedia 2006).

The Blowering Dam in New South Wales, Australia is a major ungated (rock fill with clay core) embankment dam with concrete chute spillway impounding a reservoir under the same name. It is located on the Tumut River upstream of Tumut in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales, Australia. Purposes for the dam include flood mitigation, hydro-power, irrigation, water supply and conservation. The dam is part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme (Wikipedia 2005).

Pre-flight safety briefings conducted with the boat crew and all flight operations were performed under licenced, qualified pilots.
