Skin is the largest organ of the body. It protects us from the microbes & the elements in environment. It helps regulate body temperature & permits the sensation of touch, heat & cold.
The skin contains sebaceous glands which secrete sebum which is an oily or waxy matter. Sebum protects us from damages caused by external factors & from dehydration.
How is facial skin different from body skin ??
1. Facial skin is thinner than the skin of body making it more prone to lines & wrinkles. Hence it requires extra care & hydration.
2. Facial skin is more often exposed to sunlight & is more susceptible to the aging effects of UV radiation.
3. Facial skin is more sensitive to hormonal changes in the body. The hormone Androgen can cause the skin to produce more or less sebum.
4. The no. of skin cells in the skin of the face is fewer than the rest of the body. Hence it gets easily damaged & sensitive compared to other parts of the body.
5. Repeated muscle movements in the face that we use to create facial expressions.
