Netanyahu confirms re-election bid after Trump raises doubts

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will seek re-election, his Likud party confirmed on Wednesday.
The party made the comments after U.S. President Donald Trump told a journalist he did not know if Netanyahu wanted to continue, adding “he’s had an amazing career.” Likud responded within hours saying Netanyahu would run and God willing, would win. The election must be held by October this year and will be Israel’s first since the October 2023 Hamas attack. A poll published by the Israel Democracy Institute think tank this week found 61 percent of Israelis believe Netanyahu should not run. Netanyahu faces ongoing corruption charges which he denies.
