Join us for this beautiful early morning drive from Canada's Wine Capital, Oliver, British Columbia to one of Canada's fastest growing cities, Kelowna, British Columbia. This section of BC Highway 97 winds along several lakes within the Okanagan Valley--renowned in Canada for its hot summer weather and award-winning wineries. This virtual road trip begins in the town of Oliver, home to dozens of local wineries. Driving north we are soon motoring alongside our first lake--Vaseaux Lake--home to small & large mouth bass (rare in BC) and if you are really lucky, you will see the local herd of California Bighorn Sheep roadside. A short drive further north brings us to the community of Okanagan Falls, southern gateway to the next lake along our route--Skaha Lake. You can pull off the highway high above Skaha Lake and enjoy the views northward to Penticton & Okanagan Lake. Driving through Penticton, we predominantly follow the Okanagan River Channel, famous for lazy summer day floating trips from Okanagan Lake to Skaha Lake. After Penticton, we marvel at the clay cliffs that rise up from the highway all the way to Summerland and Peachland. Watch for the wild goats above the highway construction near Okanagan Lake Provincial Park's South Campground. Finally, we reach the largest city along all of Highway 97 (US & Canada). Kelowna was recently named Canada's fastest growing city and has the skyline to prove it! The cities population was over 165,000 in 2025 and the greater Kelowna population has grown by approximately 60,000 residents in the last ten years to about 255,000.
