For the people living in Sirajganj, along the banks of the river Jamuna, life can be ruthless indeed. For the women is this village, there used to be shortage of paid work because of which they would stay indoors and keep to the family. But after the pioneer, Runa Khatun, started to weave skullcaps for men it allowed other women in the village to find a task that they could engage to earn extra income for their families. Cap weaving is now Runa’s profession and besides that she has also trained 50 other women in her village with the help of an NGO called Manob Mukti Sangstha.
