A Day To Myself. Clifford T Ward Cover.

Описание: Another beautiful story song from the late Clifford T Ward.
This tells the story of a young English man who was angry because his work was taking him away from his Love for a while.
He was working in France, and on his day off instead of being a tourist and visiting chateaux or palaces, he found himself walking alone in the countryside.
There in a quiet corner he came across some graves of English soldiers killed in war.
He was then ashamed of his own selfishness, because he would see his Love again.....

You may notice in the video some red poppies, one attached to my guitar headstock, and three behind me.
Red poppies are of course a symbol of peace and war ending, because when battlefields recover from the ravages of war, the first things to grow are often red poppies.
The three poppies behind me are ceramic, and they are three of tens of thousands that were made to mark the Centenary of the end of the First World War.
They adorned the Tower of London in a huge beautiful and moving art installation.
They were later sold to the general public for charity.
So I thought it fitting to show them as a backdrop to this beautiful song.

This song always reminds me of a day in my own life back in the late 1990's.
I was on holiday in France with my family and some friends.
We spent a few days in the beautiful Loire Valley.
One day we took a walk in a small forest.
We drove our cars into the wood and parked in a car park next to a picnic site in a small clearing in the wood.
Just two or three hundred metres into our walk we came across a War Memorial with a row of graves.
The site was beautifully maintained with fresh flowers and fresh wreaths all around.
We read that the day prior to our visit was an anniversary of the battle that took place here, and the graves were French soldiers and civilians who had tried to defend the village.
As we carried on with our walk with slightly heavy hearts we kept finding single solitary graves, presumably men buried where they fell.
At the end of our walk we started our picnic.
I happened to notice a solitary grave at the edge of the clearing, and casually went to have a look.
I read that the soldier buried there was a young man of just 18 years.
I turned around and looked at my friends and saw my son. He was laughing and sharing a joke with them, and filling his face with a baguette.....
He was 18 years old, the same age as the young boy beneath my feet......
