(14 Jul 2012) STORYLINE:
Thousands of people gathered in the northwest Pakistan city of Peshawar on Saturday to protest against the re-opening of NATO supply lines through Pakistan to Afghanistan.
The rally was organised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), or Pakistan Movement for Justice, a centrist political party led by former national cricket captain Imran Khan.
Protesters carried placards denouncing the NATO supply convoys.
Islamabad banned the NATO trucks after a series of drone attacks targeting alleged Taliban or al-Qaida members in the mountainous border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
One mistaken attack on a Pakistan border post killed several soldiers, and others regularly resulted in civilian deaths.
Khan was cheered as he told the rally: "I want to ask the government to publish the names of the people who are dying in drone attacks. Who are they? They are Pakistani citizens."
He said the PTI would organise a "peace convoy" to the border district of Waziristan in September, and invited media and human rights organisations to join it.
