Calea Victoriei is a major avenue in central Bucharest, one of the most charming places in the city. It is one of the oldest streets in Bucharest. Also, this was the first paved street in Romania (1842).
The road was built in 1692 by the Romanian ruler Constantin Brâncoveanu who wanted to link the royal court (in the old town) with his palace in Mogosoaia (a village to the north of the capital).
Along Calea Victoriei can be admired today over 30 historical buildings and monuments such as the Romanian Athenaeum (Ateneul Roman), the National History Museum of Romania (Muzeul National de Istorie a Romaniei), the National Museum of Art of Romania (Muzeul Național de Artă al României), Cantacuzino Palace (Palatul Cantacuzino), Revolution Square (Piata Revolutiei), CEC Palace (Palatul CEC) and Telephone Palace (Palatul Telefoanelor).
