This soap is a 100% coconut oil soap with a 0% superfat. It is designed this way due to coconut oil's high lather and cleansing properties. No superfat so it won't leave a greasy residue on your dishes. If making any changes to the recipe, be sure to run it through a lye calculator. For this recipe, I used the Brambleberry lye calculator located at: https://www.brambleberry.com/pages/ly...
Coconut Oil: 1,000G (35.3 oz)
Potassium Hydroxide: 270G (9.5 oz)
Initial distilled water: 270G (9.5 oz)
Dilution distilled water: 2,000 G (70.6 oz)
Step 1: Prepare the potassium hydroxide solution. Slowly add your potassium hydroxide flakes into you water (never the other way around!) stirring until dissolved. Add a little bit of potassium hydroxide at a time to reduce the amount of fumes. Set aside.
Step 2: Melt coconut oil on stove or microwave. Add to crock pot on high heat. Add potassium hydroxide solution and mix, alternating between using the stick blender and the spatula until soap looks like mashed potatoes (approximately 15 to 20 minutes)
Step 3: Turn the crock pot to low heat and cook the soap for 1 & 1/2 to 2 hours, stopping to stir with a spatula every 30 minutes or so. Soap should look like vaseline when it's done cooking.
Step 4: Perform clarity test. Mix 2 tablespoons of water with 1 teaspoon of soap paste and stir until dissolved. Soap should be clear, not milky or cloudy.
Step 5: Dilution. Add 2,000 grams of water to soap paste and allow it to dissolve in your crockpot on low heat. This will take about 6 hours or so. Turn the crock pot off and allow the soap to cool overnight.
Step 6: Add fragrance and bottle your soap! Enjoy the fruits of your effort. It is ready to be used right away.
