On the mountain of revelation, Moses was lifted into the presence of God and shown a vision that revealed the majesty of eternity. The Lord declared to him: “Behold, thou art my son; wherefore look, and I will show thee the workmanship of mine hands” (Moses 1:4). Moses beheld worlds, heavens, and creations without number, a glimpse into the infinite expanse of divine power. Yet the Lord placed a boundary on what Moses would receive: “Only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you” (Moses 1:35). Though God’s works extend endlessly, His revelation to Moses centered on this earth—because it is here that His greatest purpose unfolds. That purpose was spoken with clarity: “For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man” (Moses 1:39).
This declaration is the foundation of the plan of salvation. Creation itself, vast and incomprehensible, is directed toward one central aim—the redemption and exaltation of God’s children. His glory is not in numbers or distance but in eternal relationships, in sons and daughters who inherit immortality through the Resurrection and eternal life through Christ.
The Doctrine and Covenants testifies of this purpose: “This is the gospel, the glad tidings, which the voice out of the heavens bore record unto us—That he came into the world, even Jesus, to be crucified for the world, and to bear the sins of the world, and to sanctify the world, and to cleanse it from all unrighteousness; That through him all might be saved” (D&C 76:40–42). God’s glory is inseparably connected to the atoning mission of His Son.
Alma testified that God grants to all nations to hear His word in their own way (Alma 29:8). No people are forgotten, no tongue excluded. From Adam forward, prophets and scriptures have been raised up to testify of the Redeemer, and even when His servants are not present, His Spirit works among the children of men. His plan is universal yet personal, vast yet intimate.
The Joseph Smith Translation confirms the source of all true testimony: “Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (JST 2 Peter 1:20–21). Prophets across dispensations have proclaimed one consistent truth—that God’s purpose is the salvation of His children through Jesus Christ.
This knowledge carries with it both responsibility and hope. Responsibility, because every soul is invited to enter the covenant path and walk in the footsteps of Christ. Hope, because no one is forgotten or forsaken; all are offered the light of truth in the time and manner that God sees fit.
Thus, the testimony of Moses, the revelations of Joseph Smith, the witness of Alma, and the voice of prophets ancient and modern all join in one chorus: the Father’s work and glory is not distant, but near. His glory is not measured by stars in the sky, but by sons and daughters redeemed and exalted in His kingdom.
