How unscientific the K-Rail is -Metroman Shri E.Sreedharan explains.

No research has been done before submitting the project plan. Soil survey, hydraulic survey, longitudinal section report for every 100m, environmental study report, social impact study - nothing has been done.
In Kerala, the soil is such that when when an embankment is piled up, it gradually settles down and vanishes. So the soil has to be fortified. For this the Kerala government suggests that that and 8 foot or 9 foot wall will be erected on both sides of the railway tracks along the entire 400 to 500 km stretch of the K-Rail.
This will ,in effect, divide Kerala into two halves from Kasargodu to Thiruvananthapuram- an eastern half and a Western half. In order to solve this problem, the CM has suggested building of over bridges or subways at every 500 metres. But that alone does not solve the problem. There is still the issue of water logging. Water drainage will not be possible. That should be a channel for water to drain from the eastern side to the western side, otherwise it can lead to huge mishaps due to flooding.
The cost of the project has also been calculated in a very haphazard manner. The estimated cost has been set at 64000 crore rupees. If you study the plan even the the lands to be acquired is going to be inadequate. The actual land that has to be acquired will exceed twice what has been shown in the estimate .
