The Commanders added OL Chris Paul (1yr/undisclosed) and RB Jerome Ford (1yr/undisclosed) over the weekend. Grant breaks down Chris Paul's elite pass-blocking (no sacks allowed Week 5-18!) but concerns about run-blocking in a zone scheme, the Jerome Ford fit after his 5.4 YPC zone-heavy season with Cleveland, and why this doesn't change the Jeremiyah Love draft calculation at #7.

🏈 CHRIS PAUL - 1YR/UNDISCLOSED
Immediately adds quality OL piece you don't feel bad starting. Current depth: Tunsil, Conerly, Cosmi, Wylie, Coleman, Paul, Allegretti, Scott. Still need another center.
🛡️ ELITE PASS BLOCKER
Allowed 2 sacks all year - both in first two starts. Didn't allow a sack Week 5-18. Only 17 pressures total, basically one per week. Outstanding in protection.
⚠️ RUN BLOCKING CONCERNS
Poor run blocker who got worse as year progressed. Zone scheme might not suit his strengths - he's a true anchor who sets his feet like a turret. Gap scheme better fits his profile. Getting out on the conga line in zone? Not ideal.
🤔 BRANDON COLEMAN QUESTION
Coleman's profile more suited to zone. Is he moving to center? Is Paul a backup again? Paul only had first year starting, showed flashes.
🏃 JEROME FORD - 1YR/UNDISCLOSED
26 years old, three RBs now on roster. Only 24 carries for 73 yards last year, but 2024: 565 yards, 5.4 YPC, PFF's 15th-ranked rusher (58% zone carries led to career year). 2023: 813 yards, 4.0 YPC.
📊 FORD'S PROFILE
Only one fumble in career, valuable in short-yardage. Solid receiver: 44, 37, 26 catches recent years. Low-cost one-year on young player - easy to re-sign if works, not punitive if doesn't.
🎯 JEREMIYAH LOVE AT #7?
Doesn't make Commanders less likely to draft him - just means they have three RBs like they needed. BUT Grant doesn't believe they're taking Love (positional value reasons, will dedicate full video soon).
⏰ BOTTOM LINE
Chris Paul shores up OL depth with elite pass protection, but zone scheme fit is questionable. Jerome Ford brings zone-scheme familiarity and receiving ability to complete the RB room. Both low-cost, low-risk additions. Still need center depth, but the roster keeps getting better without breaking the bank.
