In northwest Syria, farmer Ezzat Mohammed Ahmed is preserving heirloom seeds through his Baitel Bazoor, the House of Seeds, safeguarding 50 varieties pollinated naturally and farmed organically.
Displaced in 2020, he smuggled his collection across borders and back to Idlib, sharing hundreds of free seeds daily to bolster self-sufficiency as the UN says two-thirds of Syrians lack enough food.
Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto reports from Idlib, Syria.
