With support from the Mawingu Foundation @mawinguwifi and funding from the Internet Society Foundation through the BOLT grant, this remote pastoral community in Isiolo County, in Kenya, has established a Community Resource Centre that brings Internet access, computers, and digital skills training closer to home.
And the most inspiring part? The community is sustaining it on its own terms.
Through a shared commitment they call “Sell a goat, keep the hub running,” families rotate the responsibility of selling a goat every few months to cover the Internet subscription—transforming tradition into lasting digital access.
This is what happens when connectivity is rooted in local culture, ownership, and vision: access becomes opportunity, and technology becomes a tool for collective progress.
