Rockford Speedway played host to a wide variety of grassroots motorsports action including Late Models, Sportsman, Short Trackers, Roadrunners, Bandits, Original Sixers, Monster Trucks, Sprint Cars, Midgets, Vintage Series, Spectator Drags and more. Located in Loves Park, Illinois, the historic high-banked 0.29167-mile asphalt oval—featuring 22° banked corners and 8° straights—was known as “Mid-America’s Finest Racetrack” since opening in 1948. Sanctioned under NASCAR’s Whelen All-American Series, the speedway helped launch the careers of stars like Mark Martin, Alan Kulwicki, Rusty Wallace, and Matt Kenseth while hosting marquee events such as the National Short Track Championships and fan-favorite thrill shows. Though rich in tradition and community impact, the facility has since closed and been demolished, preserving its legacy through the memories and racing history created on its grounds.
