Weaver ants, known locally in Malaysia as 'Kerengga', are insects that belong to the Formicidae family, specifically of the genus Oecophylla. They are arboreal, which mean they live in the trees.
Thus, when they need to carry food (such as these insects wings) back to their nests, they need to climb up trees.
I'm not sure what insects these wings belonged too but the weaver ants were bringing a lot of these wings back so it feels like they raided some place where there were a large amount of the winged insects rather than it being a single insect caught out.
Here, two isn't always better than one. Weaver ants are quite strong and can individually easily hold the insect wing as evidenced by some ants overtaking this group.
As seen in the video, instead of one ant being in full control and being able to move steadily up the tree, this group overcomplicates it as each ant has a different idea on how to move therefore slowing the process down.
This 4K nature and wildlife video was filmed in Malaysia where the Weaver Ant is also known locally as 'Kerengga' in Malay and '編織蟻屬' in Mandarin.
