Massillon Claims D2 State Championship for the First Time Ever

Описание: For the first time in program history the Massillon Tigers have an OHSAA Playoff Championship knocking off Hoban 7-2 in a defensive slugfest.

Both teams had a possession in the first quarter with both reaching the red zone, but Hoban (13-2) would be stopped on a fumble while Massillon Washington (16-0) was stopped on downs.

The Tigers then scored the only offensive score of the game in the second quarter after a blocked punt set them up at the Knights 27 it appeared Hoban had them stopped, but a facemask penalty on 4th down kept the drive alive resulting in a Myles Lenix 6-yard touchdown run making it 7-0.

With less than two minutes in the half Hoban pinned Massillon at their own 1 and turned it into 2 points with a safety making it 7-2 at the half.

Hoban then dominated the second half driving into Tigers territory multiple times, but penalties and key Massillon stops kept them off the board.

Late in the fourth the Tigers faced a fourth and 3 on their 42. They went with a fake punt but could not convert setting up the Knights with one final drive.

They got to the Massillon 11 and faced a 3rd and 1 with under 2 mins left, but a bad snap forced them with 4th and 7.

Knights QB Tylan rolled out of the pocket and threw into the endzone, but Tiger LB Dorian Pringle made a play on the receiver to break up the pass and clinch the championship.
