In Summer An Unwelcome Visitor Came To My Garden

Описание: I hadn’t used my camera much since March 2023. I lost interest in photography but in August a most unwelcome feathered visitor came to my garden. Phil and his wife had dropped in to see me on their way to The Lake District and it was Phil who saw the bird and told me to get my camera and take a photo of this large bird . Well, it was a surprise when I saw thes bird as it is 5 years since I last took a video of one like it and it made me realise how much I had missed using my camera to take the birds that come to my garden. I didn’t get a lot of footage so my video is not very long but since that day I have always had my camera ready as I never know what bird might come to feed with my regular feathered friends but not this one I hope.

A little info
The Sparrowhawk accipiter nisus is the one we see in the UK and in most of Europe. To see a male and female together would be easy to tell which is the female as they are very different. The female is much larger but to this day I have only seen three females that were always on their own and one male who rested on my back fence long enough me to get a good look at him and a couple of males who went off in seconds. So instead of trying to see all the differences I found that one quick way is to look at its face before it flies off. The female has a noticeable white streak above each eye and the males do not have.
I also read that a female Goshawk accipiter gentilis that is quite rare in the UK, looks very much like an oversize female Sparrowhawk. Now that would be interesting to see.
