3 Trauma responses that are often perceived as personality traits or NORMAL, but are actually signifiers for trauma are:
1. Perfectionism
2. Hyper vigilance
3. Hyper independence
These three ways of being are trauma responses.
We learn, as a result of our childhoods, how to have our needs met.
We learn to be this way out of necessity: to cope, survive, look after ourselves and stay safe.
However, this state of being is not sustainable. The three states of being can become interlinked and form vicious cycles that affect your physical body.
For example: you may feel physically ill, sweaty or shaky if you are not in control of achieving the high expectation you set out for yourself (which comes with perfectionism).
This physical response is a direct result of your emotional state.
But you are able to unlearn these states of being. You are able to reflect upon your childhood and learn how to manage and cope with these tendencies.
