Описание: Subcutaneous injection (Sub-Q or SQ) mistakes to avoid for nursing school students, nurses, and more.

When administering a sub-q injection, you want to inject 2" away from the navel.

You want to pinch fat away from the muscle tissue, and inject into the fat.

Hold the needle at a 45-90 degree angle when inserting into the tissue. If the person has a low amount of body fat to pinch, you'd use closer to 45 degrees to avoid hitting muscle, and if they have more fat to pinch, you'd use closer to 90 degrees.

As the nurse, you always want to perform hand hygiene and follow any other requirements set by your facility's protocols.
