Welcome everyone to quick code craft!
I am big fan of JetBrains. They build the best IDEs. If you look around you will see they have IDEs for almost every major programming environment - Android Studio, IntelliJ IDEA, Rider, PyCharm to name a few.
Now, what's so fantastic about their IDEs?
First, they've got killer refactoring support. Because let's face it, we don’t always write the best code possible the first time around, great refactoring support goes a long way in improving code quality.
Second, the keyboard shortcuts! They're like the magic spells of programming. You learn them once, and you can use them everywhere. It's like having a universal remote, but for coding. Their keyboard shortcuts work exactly in the same way in all their IDE’s. This significantly shortens the learning curve when you move from one programming language to another.
Today’s shortcut is like the Batman of coding shortcuts:
CMD + Shift + N on Mac or Ctrl + Shift + N on Windows.
You're in a massive project, drowning in a sea of files, and you need that one file - CustomerInsightController. Instead of scrolling like it's the credits of a Marvel movie, just hit "CMD + Shift + N (Mac) or Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows)" A magic text box appears, and you type "CustomerInsightController." Boom! The IDE does a real-time search, narrowing down the results.
And here's the secret sauce - you don't need to type the whole name. If your file is CustomerInsightController and you're feeling lazy - which BTW is a sign of a good programmer, just type "CIC" in the search box. The IDE gets it.
So go ahead, give it a spin. This is Deep signing off from the Quick Code Craft, where we learn to multiply our productivity. Until next time, happy coding!
