Tomato Gravy
1 Tbsp shortening
2 Tbsp flour
1 ½ c water
1 (15 oz) can of tomatoes
Salt and pepper to taste
Puree the tomatoes. Melt the shortening. Add flour, salt, and pepper. Stir until it is light brown. Mix half of the water and add tomatoes and brown gravy. Stir while pouring. Then add the remaining water until the mixture has a medium thickness. You can always make more gravy. If it is too thick then add more tomatoes.
History
