Las Vegas is experiencing a continued decline in visitor numbers, impacting the hospitality sector, which employs one in four workers in Southern Nevada.
Yolanda Garcia, who works on the Strip, shared her struggles, saying, "It has been really hard, because we used to be eight hours a shift, and they cut us for six-hour shifts." Her 40-hour workweek has been reduced to 30 hours, forcing some of her colleagues to seek second jobs.
Andrew Woods from UNLV's Center for Business and Economic Research noted that the leisure and hospitality job market is currently "choppy," with job losses in October followed by gains in November.
He explained that large resort corporations are exploring ways, including artificial intelligence, to boost profitability, resulting in a hiring freeze.
