In this video, I’m bringing back one of my favorite hairstyles from the 2010s, my teased “duff puff” bun.
This hairstyle features a lifted, teased puff in the front for volume and a simple bun technique in the back. I used to wear this style constantly, often with a headband, and even though it feels a little nostalgic now… it actually works incredibly well for thin, fine hair.
If you struggle with:
• Flat roots
• Thin hair that falls flat
• Buns that look too small
• Wanting volume without extensions
this throwback bun might surprise you.
In this tutorial, I show:
How to tease the front to create a soft “puff” without damage
How to shape it so it looks lifted, not stiff
How to secure the bun so it looks full
How to adjust it for fine or low-density hair
How adding a headband can balance the look
The teased front section creates the illusion of thicker hair because it builds height at the crown, and when thin hair has height, it automatically looks fuller. The simple bun in the back keeps it wearable and not overcomplicated.
Even though trends have shifted toward sleeker styles, this bun still:
✔ Adds volume
✔ Frames the face beautifully
✔ Makes hair look denser
✔ Works especially well on fine hair
✔ Is beginner friendly
