Inside Delhi's only cooling zone as temperatures cross 40C | BBC News India

Описание: Parts of Northern India are going through a heatwave, with temperatures reaching 45C. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, advising people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

In the capital, as part of its Heat Wave Action plan 2026, the Delhi government has set-up a cooling zone, which is a tent with coolers, water and ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution), to provide relief to citizens from the extreme heat. However, this is the only cooling zone we could find in the city of almost 30 million people. Authorities say other cooling zones are being set-up. It's unclear when they will be ready.

BBC journalist Aryan Mahtta went to the cooling zone on a yellow alert day to see how the facility works, find out who is using it, and hear why some feel unable to step out of the heat for respite.
