Pero entre ambos se estableció una conexión y un vínculo muy especial. Quedó reforzado cuando Liz le salvó la vida en su trágico accidente automovilístico (12-5-1956) y permaneció hasta el fallecimiento de Monty Clift.

Although Monty had not yet met Elizabeth Taylor, Paramount decide to plant the seeds of an off-screen romance by having Monty ask he to the premiere of The Heiress. It was on October 6, 1949.
While filming Raintree County, on May 12, 1956, he smashed his car into a telephone pole after leaving a party at the home of his Raintree County co-star Elizabeth Taylor and her then-husband Michael Wilding.
