Everyday we are bombarded with piles of tasks, assignments, projects and studies so and so much that we simply loose the motivation for even starting off with our task at hand. And when the sudden deadline appears for the work, we are overwhelmed with panic and distress. Suddenly the procrastination monkey inside of ours runs away and our conscious and rational instincts grab hold of us. So, what can we do to avoid these sudden mental outbursts while facing deadlines?
I suggest you the 5-Minute Rule. The 5-Minute Rule simply tells you that if you don't feel like doing or starting off a task that primarily seems enormous in size, you simply hack your brain into doing the task for 5 minutes and 5 minutes only.
As CEO of Instagram, Kevin Systrome says, "If you don't want to do something, make a deal with yourself to do at least five minutes of it. After five minutes, you'll end up doing the whole thing."
Starting off with the task at hand provides you with this ghostly momentum that keeps you going with the task that you are working with. But the main challenge is to put yourself together and make an attempt to start off!
We also talk about how Inspiration leading to action is just simply a hoax and this lack of motivation is just an excuse that the procrastination monkey deceives you with for not doing the work you're supposed to do.
It's not inspiration that follows action but it is action that follows inspiration and this inspiration leads you to more action and thus, finally, consistency. And consistency is the base of further success.
The 5-Minute Rule sets the base foundation for a self-disciplined and accounted life for us. If carried out, we can hope to lead a more productive life than before.
