What is stroke ?
Stroke is also known as “brain attack”. Just as heart attack is caused by lack of blood flow to the heart.
Brain attack is caused by lack of blood flow to the brain.
Types of stroke
Ischemic stroke (blockage type): Occur when an artery that supplies the brain greatly narrowed or blocked.
Hemorrhagic stroke (Bleeding type): Occurs when a blood vessel on the brain ruptures.
Damage to the right brain can cause
Paralysis or weakness on left side of body.
Left visual field deficit.
Spatial- perceptual deficits: This is when one has difficulty perceiving or identifying depth or spacial distances. A common example of this can be seen in hand writing,
Easily distracted,
Impulsive behavior and poor judgment.
Lack of awareness of deficits.
Damage to the left brain can cause
Paralysis or weakness on right side of body.
Right visual deficit.
Aphasia (inability to speak)
Slow, cautious behavior
Difficulties with memory.
