Did you know that the campanile or bell tower of St Mark’s Square in Venice is a 20th century reconstruction? The original building dramatically collapsed in 1902 and had been rebuilt by 1912. Perhaps the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas with its copies of the Rialto bridge, gondolas and bell tower is more authentic than we thought. Perhaps the same thing will happen to one of the medieval towers of Bologna which in December 2023 is in danger of collapsing. Find out more about all this in this short video.
