This is one of those posts that were where one thing led to another and the result was like nothing how it started out.
I was remembering being a electrical contractor at March AFB. It was my favorite military base I ever worked at (We worked on about 15-20 overall) The people I remember specifically were Don Mantz, Robert Limtiaco, Sgt. Z (aka Bonnie- her last name was Zielaskewitz, but I am sure I spelled it wrong) and Sgt. Prosper. I considered them all as friends. I was remembering a job (I think it was at the old commissary) . They were converting it to a museum. When it opened there was not a whole lot to it, but I liked it because of the old base pictures of all the buildings that were still being used then.
About the time I left the state they were building a new museum right next to 395 (later known as 215) I never went to the new one but I just checked out their website.
Wow.
I am really impressed by what it has become, but the number of aircraft on display. I have been to the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson, the old Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, the Boeing Museum in Seattle, the Spruce Goose (both Long Beach and McMinnville OR), and it looks like the March Museum holds it’s own with all of them. Should I ever visit the Inland Empire again, it will be a must see.
As I was clicking through all the pictures on their website, I thought to myself that those pictures would make a great video if accompanied by the song “Yeager’s Triumph” from the movie The Right Stuff. This is one I primarily made for myself, but I am sharing it in case there are other plane nuts that might also get goosebumps with this combination of the 2.
