How BS 30480 Suicide and the workplace was developed, from research to real-world guidance

In this video, we interview Ann John, Clinical Professor Public Health and Psychiatry, Swansea University and Chair of BS 30480’s committee, at the launch of BS 30480, held on 19th November 2025 at Speaker’s House in the Palace of Westminster.

BS 30480 Suicide and the workplace – Intervention, prevention and support for people affected by
suicide – Guide provides practical guidance on how to recognize suicide risk, respond appropriately, and provide follow-up support. It is informed by lived experience, existing research and expert input from across sectors. The standard aims to ensure people across the workplace feel able to respond with care, competence and confidence.

The launch event brought together committee members, charities, government stakeholders and end users to recognize the hard work behind the standard’s development, its real-life impact and how organizations can use it to make a difference.
