The MCHRI SPARK Partnership: Addressing Unmet Therapeutic and Diagnostic Needs in Maternal Child Health
The Stanford Maternal and Child Health Research Institute (MCHRI) partners with SPARK to support innovative maternal and child health projects to advance research discoveries into promising new treatments for patients. In this talk, Dr. Kevin Grimes, co-director of SPARK, provides an overview of the translational research program, access to expertise in drug and diagnostic development, training and mentoring opportunities, and resources to support translational efforts. SPARK scholars then present their current projects supported by MCHRI for research focused on maternal and child health, share updates in the drug and diagnostic development stage, and discuss future direction of their work.
First, Dr. Paul Vogel presents his work on therapeutic RNA editing for genomic diseases. Dr. William Goodyer then shares his work on a novel imaging agent to visualize the cardiac conduction system during cardiac surgery. Finally, Dr. Dawn Bravo discusses her project on gene-corrected stem cell therapy for cystic fibrosis sinus diseases.
