Heavy storms hit the region of Alicante, including Benidorm, in Spain.

The storms hit in the early hours of November 23rd 2021. Around 40 liters of water were measured per metre squared during the night.

Residents were woken by the sound of thunder and large hailstones hitting buildings and vehicles. Small tornados were also reported causing damage to properties.

Due to the volume of water, icy flashfloods filled streets, forcing citizens indoors. Vehicles and buildings were damaged by the flooding.

After the storm, large volumes of ice up to a meter high were seen throughout the region. Local authorities are assessing the damage and cleaning up debris following the storms.

Further cold weather including snow is forecast in areas of Spain for the coming days, as the current storm conditions caused by a high altitude depression continue.
