Morocco Hosted a World-Class AFCON — The Disrespect Must Stop

As a journalist who has covered the World Cup, Euros, Copa América, Asian Cup, and UEFA Champions League, I can confidently say this: what Morocco delivered was world-class.
From stadiums and logistics to hospitality, transport, fan atmosphere, and football quality — this AFCON felt like a major international tournament.

Morocco were hosts, not organizers. CAF organized the tournament. Blaming Morocco for refereeing decisions or outcomes is unfair and inaccurate.

On the pitch, Morocco reached the final conceding just one goal — from a penalty. A team that reached a World Cup semi-final and is ranked 8th in the world does not get there because of referees. Quality, discipline, and hard work earned that place.

Unfortunately, the AFCON final was overshadowed by unprofessional behavior, protests, and pitch invasions. This did not embarrass Morocco — it embarrassed African football as a whole. The world was watching. Sponsors were watching. This is not the image Africa should present.

This tournament reached 180+ territories, had 3,800+ accredited journalists, and for the first time was broadcast in Japan and South Korea. Morocco showed the world what African football can be.
