Here I talk about the comments from the 4 part Gymkhana series and I am attaching two other links for you to review and the comments I made about the two videos.
The video link below is from a lady that wanted me to evaluate her riding at Gymkhana. This is what I told her: Hey no bit and you were communicating with your horse, I have no problems with this from a horse and rider learning and spending time together. Your hands were too wide, so when you give direction you have to put your hand out really far to left and right, which throws off your center of balance and forces you to lean, this makes your horse have to adjust and get mixed cues. You need to remember the 10 inch box, the closer you keep your hands low and near the horn the better your are soft and smooth. This also causes lag time in communicating with the horse so that is why your horse was doing the turns so wide and what I call late. Your timing was off and you started giving direction too late, if you give better direction a little earlier, while centered with more contact on reins (not so much slack) then the horse would know faster and better what you were asking. A lot of people miss how important rein control is and how you need to train and learn how to shorten and let out your reins smoothly, I think I discuss and show this on soft hands make soft horses video.
I am going to do a follow up to my Gymkhana series and I may link this video to it and explain this, thanks for putting this out. -

Here is a second video I asked to review. This rider is a riding instructor and the student wanted to know what I thought about this instructor. Here was my response: Not impressed, she kept the horse way over flexed, she never gave back to the horse, the horse looked uncomfortable, over flexed, pain, the reins were never slack, too much contact on reins and bit, her legs are loud and kicking, her rein control is not good she never moved or adjusted the reins, she was way to busy talking and controlling and making the horse do things and never gave back to horse, never listened to horse and did not look like they, horse and rider were working together, looked more like the horse was being controlled and held back by a bit and pain.
She may be ok riding in circles in an area, but get her out in the open land where she does not have a fence to help her control the horse and take away that bit and she could not a mechanical horse on merry go round.
I do not think I am a great rider, and good rider is subjective on what you look for and what you think is good. Some other English rider would say, she is good she has a good post, he keeps good contact on the bit, she pushes the horse into leads, she was able to disengage the rear hips, all of that is BS to me, who cares other than to impress a judge or others who can't do it.
I look for cooperation, soft hands, NOT on the bit, not kicking, and comfortable for the horse, did not see that in her.
