Ethel Schrank Phelps, age 87, passed away from this earthly life on May 26, 2022 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.

She was born December 26, 1934 in Grafton, North Dakota the daughter of Herbert and Myrtle Schrank. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Dean Phelps and her sister Donna Stewart.

Ethel is survived by her three children; Bonnie Phelps (Cecelia Putman), Margurerite Phelps, and Dan Phelps (Lisa). She is also survived by four grandchildren, who adored her: Chad, Craig, Abby and Anna.
A lifelong learner, she graduated with honors with a BA degree from Lock Haven University in 1984. Her academic honors included membership in Phi Kappa Phi and AAUW’s Woman of the Year award. Following graduation she became the reference librarian at the Ross Public Library in Lock Haven, PA until her retirement and relocation to Wilmington, NC. Ethel was busy in retirement caring for her grandchildren, volunteering with Lower Cape Fear Hospice, and volunteering with St Paul’s Lutheran Church. She will be sorely missed by her many friends and family.

A visitation for Ethel will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Andrews Mortuary at 1617 Market Street, Wilmington. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 2 at 12 pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 12 N. 6th Street, Wilmington. Interment to follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.
