A Staedtler Mars #780 pencil and #502 sharpener:
Aside from the obvious purpose of the largest hole, the three other holes have a special purpose. The one in the middle burnishes the finished point clean.
The other two are different depths:
Shallow: Gauges the lead to the proper working length.
Deeper: Gauges the lead a little longer for sharpening.
I deliberately blunt a sharpened point for the demonstration, and open the sharpener to show you the clue as to which small hole is deeper before closing it up and sharpening the lead, followed by a quick cleaning.
