Honda Monkey MNNTHBX Rear Shock Install and Test

Описание: The 2019 Honda Monkey is an incredible machine, but... has comically soft rear shocks. The test riders for the development bikes in Japan must have all been around 150lbs, because when the bikes arrived here in America, our clearly "heavier rear-ends than the rest of the world" started exposing the weakness! America needed more robust rear shocks, and MNNTHBX delivered!

In this video I cover all angles of the shocks from the soft OEM shocks, how they perform in stressful riding situations, then installation of the MNNTHBX solution and how they perform in comparison to the OEM shocks.

Overall the shocks are a great improvement over the stock shocks in terms of correcting the all-to-easy bottoming out issue. The MNNTHBX shocks are a great deal stiffer however, and this is fantastic for street-based riding as the bike feels planted and solid. When taken off-road, the added stiffness in the rear does not absorb the sharp bumps as well as the stock shocks - obviously due to the stiffer springs - but will save the bike from continuously pounding the bump stops, meaning better control. The only negative side effect I feel is when I ride on gravel or pothole ridden surfaces that cause sharp suspension jolts, which are felt through the seat.

I left the shocks adjusted all-the-way down, or no pre-load at all as I felt there was not enough sag when I sat on the bike statically to require any pre-load. Even at "full soft" and no pre-load, I still don't feel the bike is bottoming out and at 215lbs, don't feel that any pre-load adjustment is necessary for me and how I ride. I'm curious to see how heavy a rider must be to need the shocks to the pre-loaded, as my 215lbs does not require it.

Final thoughts: if you ride your Monkey in any condition and consistently bottom out your rear shocks, these are an affordable and quality upgrade. They're super easy to install, and MNNTHBX is a great company to work with, who care about a quality product. I definitely recommend them to anyone that's pushing 200lbs on the bike.
