Discover the serene beauty of Chestnut House, a minimalist cabin nestled under a centuries-old tree in northern Portugal. Designed by architect João Mendes Ribeiro, this 25m² tiny house blends into its woodland surroundings with black wood cladding and birch plywood interiors.
Built around a chestnut tree, the house respects the natural slope and ecosystem. Its two cubic volumes, raised on a lightweight structure, create a poetic dialogue between architecture and nature. Inside, a warm and simple design highlights natural materials, while skylights and large windows bring in gentle light and fresh air.
In this video, we explore the façade design, construction system, spatial layout, lighting strategies, materials, interior decoration, and landscaping—revealing how architecture can be both humble and profound.
