Here it is, at long last, the debut album from Fingers Sanjeep, "Both Sides of the River". A ten-track exploration of multicultural identity through the lens of sitar-jazz fusion. The album, three years in the making, chronicles the journey from cultural displacement to integration, told through bilingual lyrics in Hindi and English.

"Both Sides Of The River" isn't just an album - it's a love letter to everyone who's ever felt caught between worlds. To the kids who translate for their parents. To the artists mixing traditions their families don't understand. To anyone who's realized that "home" isn't a place but a feeling.

I bet you never thought you'd actually experience the finished album. To be honest, there were times I wasn't sure, either. But here it is.

What started as an off-handed joke quickly morphed into Sitar Soul Man. That lit a fire somewhere inside me. Rooftop Raga followed a few weeks later. From there I realized that I needed to craft a complete narrative: this entire journey of discovery and understanding.

Those first two songs got renamed. Sitar Soul Man became Fingers Sanjeep, and Rooftop Raga became मस्ती की रात (Night of Joy). This proved necessary when I began writing the story that would become the lyrics to keep things cohesive and interesting.

For those of you who may be interested in such things, this was the final album structure I settled on and worked to fit everything into:

Roots and Discovery

"Grandfather's Sitar" - Origin story, inheritance of musical tradition

"The Weight of Expectations" - Family/cultural pressures vs. artistic vision

"Lessons from Mumbai" - Deepening connection with homeland

Resolution and Integration
"Both Sides of the River" - Final acceptance and wholeness

Clearly, the Rooftop Raga to मस्ती की रात change had to occur, not just because it was cooler, but also because the B side is where acceptance begins in this story. And what better way to launch acceptance than a multicultural rooftop party around a song titled in Hindi?

Additionally, you may have noticed the track count difference between the A and B sides: 6 verses 4. That was intentional. Side A includes shorter tracks with more variety of style and a broader number of vocalists: the uncertainty period. While side B holds longer tracks that are more flowing and confident: the acceptance period. Yet I worked to ensure that each side was consistent in length. Side A comes in at 25 minutes 15 seconds, while side B is 24 minutes 56 seconds. Encapsulating a principal that was important to me on this journey, in this album, and for Fingers Sanjeep. संतुलन. Balance.

I could geek out for a while on all of this, but I think I'll spare you (and observe the character limit in video descriptions). Suffice it to say, I learned a great many things along the way, and stretched myself in ways I hadn't for a long time. But I loved the process and the outcome, and hopefully you'll find something here to like as well.
