Bansko Bulgaria is a ski town located in the Pirin Mountains, with a year round population of 13,000 but winter population that may reach 50,000. Bansko has a very low cost of living by European and US standards, and apartments may cost as low as the price of an automobile. Bansko has more and more foreigners calling the region home due to the low cost of living and quality of life. The average US Retiree on Social Security receives $1,660 a month, and a couple on Social Security receives over $2,700 a month. A US Expat living on Social Security can expect a lower cost of living in Bulgaria when compared to the living costs in the US.
