We are the Women's Ministry of Arizona Community Church. Our goal is to be Changed for the Better! Our conviction is that knowledge and understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ has the power to accomplish that. The ACC Women’s Ministry exists to equip women with the truth of the Gospel and encourage them to share it throughout their families, neighborhoods, workplaces and communities.
KEY PASSAGE
1 Corinthians 1:1-9
CONTEXT
1. Corinth was a city central to the area – politically, socially, economically
2. Paul came to Corinth on his 2nd missionary journey
3. He met Priscilla and Aquilla here and, Apollos also had and effective Ministry here
4. Believers were predominantly Gentiles and of the lower socioeconomic class
5. Reports got back to Paul that the church was having problems
with sexual immorality, divisions, legal disputes, pride, and theology
6. Paul writes this letter in response to a letter they had written to him
7. The opening of the letter is in the same pattern as all Greco-Roman letters were written which includes the writer, the addressee, and the greeting – which typically included a prayer or thanksgiving to gods for the health and well-being of the recipient. Paul infuses the Gospel into his salutation as to be set apart from other religions and writers.
In Grace, we have been given:
Spiritual BLESSINGS and GIFTS. 1 Corinthians 1:5-7
HOPE. 1 Corinthians 1:7
STRENGTH. 1 Corinthians 1:8
SALVATION. 1 Corinthians 1:8
The FAITHFULNESS of GOD. 1 Corinthians 1:9; Hebrews 10:19-23; 2 Timothy 2:11-13
THRIVING IN GRACE
1. It means we silence the enemy when he tries to get us to believe that we are good for nothing when we mess up.
2. It means we confess our sin and then walk, chin up, knowing that we are saved by grace!
3. It means we encourage one another that the blood of Christ is ENOUGH. It is SUFFICIENT and we don’t need to add our own wisdom, knowledge, and “good deeds” to it.
4. It means that we are SO incredibly thankful and grateful for the gift of grace through the blood of Christ that we cannot HELP but live for Him, speak of Him, prioritize Him, love Him and desire to understand His Word and Truth.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. What impacted you most from today’s lesson? What new information did you learn and/or what part of the message could you relate to most?
2. In what ways do you struggle with thriving in grace? What truths can help you overcome that?
3. What does living with hope and expectancy look like in your life? How does that help with living in this temporal life?
4. Who is someone you can pray for today?
PERSONAL REFLECTION
Take time this week to intentionally sit with Jesus and thank Him for His blood shed for you. Thank God, the Father for this gift of grace through the Son. Reflect on how your life is impacted knowing that you are saved by grace. Consider who you might share that with this week.
CONTINUED STUDY
Read Ephesians 2:1-22 and then consider how this passage aligns with the message of GRACE and living in grace.
