When I first painted on skeleton I faced many issues such as gapes on the leaf, the outline was not fine. I was not knowing which colors should be used on peepal leaf. After experimenting with many things, I concluded that poster colors are best for this type of painting.
You should always start with the drawing on paper but if you are not good at drawing you can keep a printout on which keep the skeleton of peepal leaf and start doing the outline of the picture with black poster color. Then make a color theme and start coloring the leaf or you can copy the colors of the picture you have selected. The only important thing does not to allow the leaf to stick on the surface so keep it off the surface again and again. You may have to color the leaf twice or thrice to feel all the gaps in the leaf.
Trick - Use thick colors without mixing much water into the color.
