How To Fix E-Bike Brakes Not Working (How To Repair A Broken E-Bike Brakes). In this video tutorial I will show you how to fix e-bike brakes not working.
Here are the causes and the solutions to try:
Worn-Out Brake Pads
The friction that stops your E-bike wears down the brake pads gradually, which impacts their efficiency. Inspect your brake pads regularly, especially if braking feels weak or uneven. Replace them with new ones if they are thin or worn out.
Contaminated Brake Surface
Your E-bike’s braking surface can be contaminated with debris, oil, or dirt. These factors can affect brake performance by reducing the grip between the brake pads and the rotor or rim. Clean the braking surface carefully with a suitable cleaner, such as isopropyl alcohol.
Damaged Brake Levers
Brake levers wear down over time. Your E-bike may accidentally fall over, damaging your brake levers. Replace the damaged brake levers with new ones.
Improper Brake Adjustment
Improper brake adjustments can cause noise and other brake failures. The brakes will fail to work smoothly if the cable tension is incorrect or the brakes are not properly aligned. Ensure your brake pads have uniform contact with the rim or rotor. Also, adjust the brake calipers correctly and ensure the cable tension is even.
Brake Cable Issues
Inspect if the cables are protruding from the brake calipers. If they protrude, fasten them by turning the barrel adjusters clockwise. If the wires are too tight, loosen them by turning your barrel adjusters anti-clockwise.
Hydraulic Brake Issues
If your E-bike’s hydraulic disc brakes feel soft or unresponsive, you can bleed the brake system to eliminate air within the lines. Use a brake bleeding kit to bleed the hydraulic brakes.
Overheating Brakes
When you brake frequently or too hard, your brakes may overheat, reducing stopping power. Ensure you use your brakes periodically during long downhill slopes to prevent heat buildup. If your electric bike has both front and rear brakes, switch between them to evenly distribute braking power. Consider upgrading to larger rotors to enhance heat distribution.
