নামমাত্র চলল জগন্নাথদেবের রথ নন্দীঘোষ। প্রবল ভিড়ে পুরীর শ্রীমন্দিরের সিংদ্বার থেকে সামান্য এগিয়ে থমকে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকল। রথযাত্রা শুরু হতেই প্রবল দেরি হয়েছিল। সন্ধ্যা ৭টা ৪৫ মিনিটে রথ চলা শুরু হলেও নামমাত্র এগিয়ে থেমে যায় নন্দীঘোষ। এর মধ্যেই ঠেলিঠেলিতে পদপিষ্ট হয়ে, ভিড়ে দমবন্ধ হয়ে অন্তত ৬০০ ভক্ত অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েন। অনেকেই হাসপাতালের চিকিৎসাধীন। রাত পর্যন্ত কারও প্রাণহানির খবর মেলেনি। তবে অন্তত ৪০ জন গুরুতর আহত। স্থানীয় প্রশাসন ও শ্রীমন্দিরের সংশ্লিষ্ট সূত্রে দাবি, রথ সংলগ্ন ঘেরাটোপে বাড়তি লোক ঢোকার ছাড়পত্র দেওয়াতেই ভোগান্তি হয়েছে। তিনটি রথের কোনওটি কিলোমিটার তিনেক দূরে গন্তব্য গুন্ডিচা মন্দির পর্যন্ত যেতে পারেনি। আজ, শুক্রবার বেলা 11টায় ফের রথ টানা শুরু হবে।

600 sick in Puri Rath Yatra

Jagannath Dev's chariot, Nandighosh, barely moved. Due to heavy crowd, it stopped just ahead of Singhdwar of Srimandir in Puri. There was a huge delay as soon as the Rath Yatra started. Although the chariot started moving at 7:45 pm, Nandighosh barely moved. In the meantime, at least 600 devotees fell ill due to being trampled and suffocated by the crowd. Many are undergoing treatment in the hospital. There was no news of any loss of life till night. However, at least 40 people were seriously injured. According to the local administration and sources related to Srimandir, the issue of giving permission to extra people to enter the enclosure adjacent to the chariot has caused suffering. None of the three chariots could reach the destination Gundicha temple, about three kilometers away. Today, Friday, the chariot will start pulling again at 11 am.
