Along with the ukulele's first wave of popularity spreading from Hawaii in the early 20th century came the style known as ‘hapa haole’ - literally ‘half-white’. It was Hawaiian music with Western (mainly American) influence, or conversely, Western music with Hawaiian influence. This popular example was written in Hawaii in 1933 by Bill Cogswell, Tommy Harrison and Johnny Noble. It’s been in my repertoire for many years and often performed at gigs. This version is a home recording with me on vocals, ukulele and bass.
