ABOUT EVAN AUGUSTE, PH.D.
Dr. Evan Augusto, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at John Jay College and a Scholar-in-Residence at Boston College, holding a Ph.D. in clinical psychology (forensic focus) from Fordham University (2022). His work, shaped by his Haitian-African American identity, examines how anti-Blackness impacts psychological realities.
He directs the A.S.I.L.I. Collective, a research group utilizing Black liberation psychology to address the mental health consequences of structural anti-Blackness. The collective researches the effects of justice-contact on Black youth and intergenerational trauma in Haitian communities.
Dr. Auguste develops anti-carceral interventions, such as the Sawubona Healing Circles, to promote African-centered healing. He also co-edited the volume The Carceral State, Forensic Psychology, and Black Resistance and engages in advocacy for radical movement and community change.
